Bandipora, August 23: Wular Lake in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district is set to have Boulevard look soon as its transformation is going on in full swing with an “eco-friendly” Boulevard Project along its periphery.

An official told Rising Kashmir that plans are in full swing for the Wular Walkway Project’s 1st Phase, which will convert the lake’s shoreline into a stunning “Boulevard” reminiscent of the famous Dal Lake.

With a budget of 19 crore rupees allocated last year, this project covering a span of 2.5 kilometers from Banyari to Naz Nallah is going on in full swing and is on track for completion by year-end, he said.

The 2nd phase of the project, extending from Naz Nallah to Wular Vintage Park, is currently in the estimation phase, with work scheduled to commence later this year, he said.

Mudasir Mehmood, Coordinator of Wular Conservation and Management Authority told Rising Kashmir that once the project is complete, the tourism potential of Wular Lake is undeniable. Tourists can look forward to leisurely strolls along the boulevard, serene boat rides on the lake, and an up-close encounter with the rich biodiversity of Wular lake.

Mudasir also said that the Wular Walkway Project will not only transform the landscape but will create new opportunities for tourism and economic growth.

Meanwhile Locals around Wular Lake in Bandipora are optimistic about the transformation and potential development of the wular lake as they believe that enhancing the beauty of the lake surrounding will not only add to the charm of the lake but also create employment opportunities.

A local resident said that the Boulevard project in Wular Lake has the potential to attract tourists from far and wide. “It will not only increase the number of visitors to our area but also help improve our livelihoods”, he added.

“Before, we primarily relied on fishing and chestnut production as a means of income. However, with the tourist potential that the administration has created around the lake with its transformation which is going on large scale, we anticipate higher earnings and more opportunities”, he added.
