Srinagar, Nov 19: Higher reaches eof Kashmir experienced light snowfall and rain lashed plains on Saturday .The meteorological department has predicted significant improvement in prevailing weather conditions from Sunday onward.
Director MeT, Srinagar Centre, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting significant improvement in prevailing weather conditions from Sunday afternoon.
” On Sunday, it will be generally cloudy at most places of J&K. There is no forecast of any major snow spell till ending November,” he said.
As per MeT department officials, 3 inches of fresh snowfall was recorded at the ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla. In Kupwara’s district, Tangdar and Keran sectors recorded 6-7 inches of snow, 3-4 inches was recorded in Gurez, Tulail in Bandipora, and 3-4 inches of snow over Peer Ki Gali and Sonamarg areas of Valley.
However, light rain lashed plains across the Kashmir. Following the dip in mercury, sub-zero temperatures were reported at various places in valley.
Ski resort Gulmarg was the coldest place in Kashmir and settled at minus 1.5. degrees Celsius and 3.6 °C as maximum temperatures on Wednesday.
Summer capital Srinagar recorded a maximum of 11.3 degrees Celsius and 2.3 °C as the minimum temperature.
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 9.4 °C as maximum and minus 1.3 1.°C as minimum temperatures . Qazigund recorded a maximum of 12.4°C respectively and 1.8° C as minimum temperature.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 9.3°C, while minimum temperatures settled at 1.8 °C respectively.
