Srinagar, Oct 05: Due to some technical snag, the lift commissioned in MRI Block at Super Specialty Hospital in Shireen Bagh Srinagar has stopped its normal functioning, leaving visiting patients to suffer badly.
The elderly patients and their attendants who visited the block in the last few days for getting MRI, MRCP and other medical investigations done, expressed deep resentment over the non-functioning of lift and appealed to hospital administration to intervene and restore the services at the earliest.
“The lift in the block is currently out of order and has stopped its operations. The patients with severe complications or elderly ones are facing manifold hardships. No official bothers to intervene and ease out the sufferings visiting patients are going through into”, an attendant who visited along with his elderly patient from north Kashmir’s Baramulla told Rising Kashmir.
“I carried my elderly patient on my back as the lift was out of order. I reached the upper floor of the building after hectic efforts. Had it been operational, patients would not have suffered”, he said.
The Multi-Speciality Hospital, Shireen Bagh is an offshoot of SMHS hospital and was thrown open a few years ago to cater the flow of visiting patients at SMHS hospital.
This healthcare facility is located in the heart of the city and caters to a huge number of patients including referrals from district hospitals across. The MRI block witnesses a huge rush of patients on a daily basis where several tests are being done on a regular basis.
However, the defunct lift in the block gives tough time to patients and their attendants, especially elderly ones who have to face manifold hardships while visiting the building.
Another female patient said that patients visiting the block are compelled to wait outside the investigation room without having any adequate seating arrangements in place. “Few seats do not cater to the needs of patients who visit there for investigations”, she said.
“Many patients having orthopaedic disorders have been compelled to reach the MRCP room through stairs. It immensely hurts them. Further waiting outside in a haphazard manner creates more problems for them”, she added.
The patients however appealed to concern hospital administration to intervene into the matter and restore the defunct lift in the building.
When this reporter contacted Medical Superintendent of the concerned healthcare facility Dr Jahangir Bakhshi, he however didn’t respond to calls and dropped the text “Slightly busy. Please text if urgent or patient-related”.
When the query was communicated in the written form, the MS said, “Unofficial status of MRI lift as received from concerned engineering wing is that it is functional.”
