Rally to begin from Showkat Ali Stadium, conclude at Dak Bungalow
Srinagar, May 11: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will lead a mega padyatra under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ in Baramulla district on Tuesday as part of the ongoing 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt J&K’ campaign aimed at combating drug abuse across the Union Territory.
The anti-drug awareness rally is expected to witness participation from more than 90,000 people, including students, civil society members, NGOs, and religious leaders. According to officials, the padyatra will begin from Showkat Ali Stadium and conclude at Dak Bungalow in Baramulla town.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Syed Altaf Hussain Musvi, said the district administration has appealed to participants to reach the venue by 6:30 am in view of the anticipated rush and traffic restrictions in the area. He said the Lieutenant Governor is scheduled to join and lead the rally at around 10 am.
“Extensive arrangements, including security and traffic management measures, have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the event,” Musvi said, adding that senior officials are closely monitoring logistics and crowd management for the high-profile programme.
Officials said the padyatra is intended to send a strong message against the growing menace of drug abuse and reinforce the administration’s commitment towards building a drug-free society.
“We are determined to make Baramulla a drug-free district and safeguard the future of our younger generations,” officials said.
The rally forms part of the wider ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan’, which has been witnessing active community participation across the Union Territory. With the Lieutenant Governor personally leading the initiative, authorities expect the campaign to further strengthen public awareness and support against substance abuse.
Traffic diversion
The Traffic Police Rural Kashmir on Monday issued a traffic advisory announcing temporary suspension of vehicular movement on a stretch of the Baramulla-Uri road in view of a mega rally being organised under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” in Baramulla town.
According to the advisory issued by the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, traffic movement from Railway Crossing Baramulla to Bus Stand Crossing Baramulla along the Baramulla-Uri road will remain completely suspended from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm on May 12.
The rally, being conducted as part of the anti-drug campaign, is expected to witness large public participation, prompting authorities to impose temporary traffic restrictions to ensure smooth conduct of the event and public safety.
Motorists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel on the affected road stretch during the specified hours.
To facilitate hassle-free movement of vehicles travelling towards Srinagar and Uri, the traffic department has issued an alternate diversion plan.
As per the advisory, Srinagar-bound vehicles coming from Uri and Baramulla will be diverted through Khanpora Bridge, Old Town and Ladoora-Sangrama route before joining the Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
Similarly, vehicles travelling towards Uri and Baramulla from Srinagar side will be diverted via Sangrama, Juhama, Ladoora, Old Town and Khanpora Bridge.
