Srinagar, Aug 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the Balidan Stambh at Pratap Park in Srinagar on Thursday.
The memorial, constructed at a cost of Rs 4.8 crore, is dedicated to honouring the martyrs of Jammu & Kashmir.
LG Sinha was accompanied by senior officials during the inauguration, where they paid tributes to the martyrs in whose honour the Balidan Stambh has been built.
In his address at Bakhshi Stadium, LG Sinha paid homage to the valiant jawans and officers of the J&K Police, Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), who have consistently displayed extraordinary heroism. He highlighted their spirit of sacrifice in protecting Jammu & Kashmir and ensuring its development.
“Our only dream,” LG Sinha stated, “is for Jammu & Kashmir, with its ageless cultural and spiritual heritage, to become synonymous with achievement and to move confidently towards the goal of good governance.”
He emphasized the significance of the Balidan Stambh, saying, “We have built this memorial to immortalize the police personnel and soldiers who laid down their lives in protecting the soil of Jammu & Kashmir. This monument will inspire future generations to reflect on the ideals and values of patriotism and sacrifice upheld by the martyrs.”
Extending his congratulations on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, LG Sinha remarked, “Today, we gather to celebrate the spirit of freedom, unity, and resilience that defines our great nation.”
He honored the countless sacrifices made by freedom fighters and martyrs, saying, “Our history is etched with the blood and toil of those who, against all odds, fought bravely for our nation’s independence. Their indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom have paved the way for the vibrant democracy we are privileged to be a part of today.”
Reflecting on the significance of Independence Day, LG Sinha said, “As we unfurl the tricolor today, we are reminded of the struggles, the pain, and the ultimate sacrifices of those who fought against oppression and tyranny. Their vision of a free nation has become our reality through sheer dedication and courage. It is our duty to ensure that their legacy continues to inspire and guide us.”
He concluded by urging everyone to contribute to the nation’s betterment: “In their memory, let us vow to stand united against any threat to our sovereignty and work towards a brighter, more inclusive future for all. Their sacrifices have given us this day; let us honour it by dedicating ourselves to the service of our nation and its people.”
