Srinagar, May 07: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Science and Technology Department, focusing on key initiatives and projects aimed at advancing the region’s technological landscape.
The meeting, attended by high-ranking officials including AtalDulloo, Chief Secretary; Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary, Finance Department; Dr.Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lt. Governor; SaurabhBhagat, Commissioner/Secretary, Science and Technology Department, and senior officers from NHPC, Central and UT Government, delved into crucial matters concerning the functioning of entities like the Jammu Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) and the Jammu Kashmir Science Technology and Innovation Council (JKST&IC).
Lt. Governor Sinha scrutinized the progress of key solar power projects and schemes, including the Rooftop Solarization of Government and Residential buildings, Solar Power Plants installed under the Smart City Project, and Floating Solar Power Plants. He emphasized the importance of solar energy and urged NHPC to expedite the solarization of all Government buildings within their jurisdiction. Additionally, he instructed the Science & Technology Department to collaborate with NHPC to identify suitable buildings for solarization.
In a proactive move towards sustainable energy, Lt. Governor Sinha directed officials to explore opportunities for installing solar panels along canals, riverbanks, and other water bodies, while also emphasizing the need for proper maintenance and timely replacement of street lights.
The meeting also deliberated on various other issues pertinent to the development of solar energy, as well as initiatives such as the Sub Regional Science Centre-Srinagar, Industrial Bio-Technology Park, and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities under the ambit of Science and Technology.
