Srinagar, Aug 35: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday released a book ‘Beyond Fear: A Saga of Sacrifice and Courage’ on Jammu & Kashmir Police written by well-known activist Amit Raina.
Since 1990 at least around 1800 personnel, including officers of different ranks, have been killed fighting terrorism in Kashmir. The figure is the highest when compared to other anti-terrorism operations by any other organization in the country. In this fight with terror, from SPO to DG, every rank has seen grievous injuries or martyrdom. The killings have been brutal.
“They have been kidnapped, tortured, sprayed with bullets or lynched. The book is an attempt to shed light on the struggle and sacrifices of Jammu & Kashmir Police in combating terrorism in the state,” an official statement issued here said.
LG Sinha applauded the effort of Amit Raina for taking up this noble cause of highlighting the difficult role of J&K Police in combating terrorism in J&K. He expressed hope that the book will create awareness about the tremendous contribution of the Jammu & Kashmir Police in its fight against terror and commemorate the sacrifices of its brave hearts. The people in the country need to be told about the crucial role played by J&K Police, against terrorism, he added.
The forward to the book has been written by Dilbagh Singh, DGP, Jammu & Kashmir Police; Dr SP Vaid and Kuldeep Khoda, both veteran police officers and former DGPs, J&K Police.
Amit Raina later presented a copy of the book to MK Sinha, ADGP – HQ, who applauded the effort and thanked the writer for taking such a “wonderful initiative”. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr Raj Nehru, Vice Chancellor, Shri Vishwakarma Skill University and Pankaj Dhar, Trustee Zaara Foundation.
