Srinagar, Oct 31: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday praised the Srinagar City Limited Smart City (SSCL) project in enhancing the city’s cultural heritage through prestigious projects like the Jhelum Riverfront and more.
Addressing the gathering after  inaugurating  Jhelum Riverfront (Right Bank) Zero Bridge to General Post Office in Srinagar, he said the riverfront has undergone transformation into a pedestrian and cycling promenade, complete with parks and public plazas. These areas are now equipped with essential amenities such as restrooms, comfortable seating, and top-notch lighting.
LG Sinha said SSCL has also undertaken the task of laying electric and telecommunication utility cables underground, ensuring a wire-free environment along the riverfront, enhancing the public space’s aesthetics and functionality.
The function was attended by  SMC Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, CEO SSCL Athar Amir Khan and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz and other officers.
Bilal Ahmad Khan, a local from Rajbagh told Rising Kashmir that Jhelum Riverfront has breathed new life into our city. It is a fantastic public space that everyone can enjoy. I love taking my family for evening strolls along the river, he said.
Khan said the transformation of the Jhelum Riverfront is like a dream come true. It is not only an excellent addition for us residents but also a major draw for tourists.
“This is the Srinagar we have always envisioned, he added.
Abdul Qadir, a shopkeeper at Lal Chowk said that SSCL  has become a model of urban excellence, and we are proud to have such a world-class public space in our city.”
He facilities like walkways, cycling tracks, green spaces, and universal access have greatly improved the quality of life for Srinagar residents.
In May this year, LG inaugurated the impressive 6 km-long Jhelum Rajbagh Riverfront, which has since been transformed into a world-class public space featuring amenities like walkways, cycling paths, green spaces, universal accessibility, and a host of engaging activities.
