Srinagar, Apr 06: Security forces on Thursday recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from woods of Haphruda area of North Kashmir’s Handwara and arrested a terrorist associate linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT in Bandipora, here today.
A Police spokesperson said, a joint operation, Indian Army along with JKP Handwara, based on reliable input, carried out specific jungle search in Haphruda Forest in North Kupwara district on early morning of April 6, 2023.
” The search resulted in recovery of huge cache of ammunition, that is 720 rounds of 7.62 mm (most likely of Chinese origin) , 05 rounds of RPG , 09 booster tubes of RPG and 10 x UBGL grenade(most likely of Russian Origin),” he said.
The spokesman further stated that the ammunition was concealed in two logs in the jungle area with adequate packaging. In fact few of the ammunition has been found in sealed packages.
“A thorough jungle search was launched by Haphruda COB and JKP Handwara personnel in the general area of Haphruda forest for any more caches of arms, ammunition or for any hideout,” he said.
Meanwhile, Police along with security forces have arrested a terrorist associate linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT in Bandipora and recovered explosive and ammunition from his possession.
On a specific information regarding movement of terrorists in Aloosa area of Bandipora, a special checkpoint was established near Canal Road,Aloosa, jointly by Police, 26 Assam Rifles and 3rd Bn CRPF. During the checking, one terrorist associate linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT was apprehended. He has been identified as Jamshed Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Rashid resident of AloosaBandipora.Incriminating materials, ammunition and explosive including 01 Chinese grenade and 12 live AK-47 rounds was recovered from his possession.Regarding the incident, a case under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Bandipora and further investigation has been initiated.
