Srinagar, May 03: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Govt. of India has accorded quality certification to three J&K hospitals under Labour room Quality improvement Initiative (LaQshya) program in recognition of high standards of quality and ensuring respectful maternity care in labour room and maternity OT.
The three hospitals include Kashmir largest maternity hospital Lalla Ded Hospital Srinagar, District Hospital, Ganderbal and Govt. Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
In a letter issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI to Secretary, Health & Medical Education J&K, Bhupinder Kumar, has congratulated him for the quality certification of the three hospitals.
“Labour room of LD Hospital Srinagar and DH Gandhinagar, Jammu and maternity OT of LD Hospital and DH Ganderbal are granted “Quality Certification” under LaQshya program,” the letter said.
Whereas Labour Room of DH Ganderbal and maternity OT of DH Gandhinagar, Jammu are granted “Quality Certification with conditionality” under LaQshya program for a period of one year from the date of issue of this letter.
“The certified health facilities should strive hard to work on recommended areas of improvements and submit the action plan to the State Quality Assurance Unit. The State Quality Assurance Unit is expected to verify the improvement in the surveillance audits and submit the status to quality certification unit NHSR along with surveillance reports,” it said.
The Union Govt. has launched “LaQshya” to improve quality of care in labour rooms and maternity operation theatres in public health facilities.
Earlier, these facilities were assessed by a team of highly qualified and empanelled assessors from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in February and March 2023.
Officials said that the national certification will be valid for a period of three years subject to annual verification of the scores by the State Quality Assurance Committee.
Secretary, Health & Medical Education J&K, Bhupinder Kumar, congratulated the facility staff of the three hospitals for this achievement.
He urged all Medical Colleges, District Hospitals and CHCs to work for implementation of LaQshya standards in labour rooms and maternity OTs for improving care around birth so that maternal and newborn health is further improved.
Mission Director, NHM J&K, Ayushi Sudan, said the certification has been accorded to these three facilities in recognition of the “high standards of quality and performance maintained by these hospitals” in their concerned labour room and maternity operation theatre.
