Kargil, Aug 03: A devastating landslide early this morning in the Kabaddi Nallah area of Kargil district resulted in the collapse of a house and left at least 12 men injured. The incident, occurring around 3:45 am, was triggered by ongoing land excavation for construction purposes. Prompt and coordinated rescue efforts followed immediately.
The Indian Army, UTDRF, and volunteers from Al Reza JUIAK Ladakh and Baseej e Imam IKMT swiftly mobilized to the scene. All five individuals trapped in the debris were successfully rescued and transported to the district hospital in Kargil. Reports confirm that the injured are safe and receiving necessary medical care.

Traffic on the National Highway has been redirected to the bypass to facilitate the ongoing rescue operations. The collapse, situated near Kargil’s main market, has caused considerable disruption in the area.

Senior officials, including CEC LAHDC Kargil Dr. Jaffar Akhon, DC Shrikant Bala Shib, and SSP Kargil, visited the site to oversee the rescue efforts. In a statement to the media, DC Kargil acknowledged the incident as a substantial system failure and announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the cause of the collapse, promising serious consequences for those found responsible.

The joint rescue operation, led by SSP Kargil, involved the Ladakh Police/UTDRF, Revenue Department, 121 Brigade of the Indian Army, MC Kargil, Health Department Kargil, and volunteers from Al-Reza Health Care & Research Foundation Kargil, Ladakh (ISK), and Baseej e Iman (IKMT). This coordinated effort ensured the safe evacuation of all injured persons.

Chairman/CEC LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhone, Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Suse, and Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil visited the site to assess the situation and later checked on the status of the injured at the District Hospital, directing hospital authorities to provide comprehensive medical care.

An enquiry has been ordered by DM Kargil, to be conducted by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Kargil. An FIR has been filed by PS Kargil under FIR no. 31 U/S 125(a) BNS, and investigations are underway. The District Administration remains in constant contact with the injured, providing relief through the Red Cross Society.

Strict directives have been issued to the MC Kargil and the Revenue Department to monitor similar vulnerable areas to prevent future incidents.
