Ladakh, Feb 17: General Administration Department (GAD) of the Ladakh government has taken a significant step towards eradicating manual scavenging by establishing Union Territory and District Level Survey Committees.
These committees are tasked with enforcing the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.
At the district level, the Committee will be helmed by the Deputy Commissioner/CEO of LAHDCs Leh/Kargil, while at the UT level, the Administrative Secretary of Housing and Urban Development UT Ladakh will serve as the chairperson.
The formation of these committees has received official sanction from the Competent Authority, aligning with the clauses and rules outlined in the Act.
Moreover, alongside the District Commissioner’s leadership, the District Social Welfare Officer Leh/Kargil has been designated as the Member Secretary of the District Level Survey Committee.
Additionally, the District Statistical Officer and Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Leh/Kargil have been appointed as its members.
