Ladakh admin sets up advisory boards under key security, public safety laws

  Srinagar, Sept 27: The Union Territory of Ladakh has constituted Advisory Boards under three key public safety and preventive detention laws, following consultation with the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.  According to a statement issued here, the Advisory Boards have been set up under Section 14 of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978; clause (a) of Section 9 of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 and Section 9 of the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980. According to the order, retired High Court judge Justice M. K. Hanjura has been appointed as Chairperson of the boards. Principal District and Sessions Judge Leh, Manoj Parihar, and Principal District and Sessions Judge Kargil, Spalzes Angmo, have been named as members. Officials said the constitution of these boards is a statutory requirement to review detention orders and preventive actions passed under the respective Acts. The panels are mandated to examine whether such orders comply with legal standards and procedural safeguards. The notification added that the terms and conditions of the Chairperson and Members will be issued separately. The order was approved by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
