Samba, Dec 16: Krishi Vigyan Samba, under the leadership of Professor J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu and under the direct supervision of Dr. S.K. Gupta, on Friday, organized a one-day in-service training program on “IPM/IDM package for major Rabi crops for agriculture officers” which was attended by twelve officers from the Department of Agriculture, Samba.
The program started with the introduction of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Samba. He welcomed all the participants and discussed the mandates and functions of KVK. He said new ways and methods have to be explored for the benefit of the farming community by improving coordination between officers of development departments and Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba.
Dr. Sanjay stressed the safe and judicious use of pesticides and organic crop production of Rabi vegetables. He emphasized the use of various organic sources like FYM, vermicompost, vermiwash, biofertilizers, etc.
Dr. Saurav Gupta, Scientist, Entomology and Coordinator of the training program discussed in detail the various control measures of insect pests and diseases through IPM and IDM modules in the major field, vegetable, and fruit crops. He discussed about different ways to control various insects – pests and diseases of vegetables by traditional as well as through modern techniques and the advantages of IPM over chemical control of insect pests. He called upon the need for the adoption of IPM techniques to increase agriculture production and the doubling of farmer income.
Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha, Sr. Scientist Ag Engineering laid stress on intercropping of vegetables in the existing orchards of the district for getting extra benefits from the existing system. The program was attended by officers of the Agriculture department. They also visited the farm of KVK, Samba where the vegetables are growing organically.
The program was assisted by Dr. Amit Mahajan, Dr. Shalini Khajuria and Bharat Bhushan of KVK Samba. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha.
