Pulwama, Feb 17: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Pulwama, SKUAST-K, in collaboration with the Department of Social Forestry, Jammu and Kashmir UT, organised a one-day awareness cum distribution programme on male poplar plants at KVK Malangpora. The initiative aimed at promoting sustainable agroforestry and environmental conservation while addressing ecological concerns associated with female poplar trees.
The event was graced by Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Prof. Rihana Habib Kant, as the Chief Guest, alongside officers from the Indian Air Force, officials from the Social Forestry Department, KVK scientists and staff, and a large gathering of farmers.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Javeed Ahmad Mugloo, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Pulwama, who emphasized the importance of adopting eco-friendly plantation practices. He highlighted the role of male poplar trees in reducing environmental concerns and promoting sustainable agroforestry. Speaking on the occasion, Director Extension, SKUAST-K, commended the collaborative efforts of KVK Pulwama and the Department of Social Forestry in fostering green initiatives. She encouraged farmers to actively participate in afforestation drives and integrate agroforestry models to enhance both environmental sustainability and economic benefits.
