Kupwara, May 2: Police in Kupwara have stepped up their anti-drug operations under the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan’, deploying K9 sniffer units and expanding checks across the district to crack down on narcotics.

Officials said the trained canine unit is being used during naka checking, targeted raids, and area domination exercises to detect concealed drugs, particularly in identified hotspot areas. The move has enhanced the efficiency of search operations in both urban and remote locations.

As part of the intensified drive, police have set up checkpoints at key locations and are conducting surprise inspections. Searches have also been carried out in and around colleges, schools, and chemist shops to deter drug peddling and disrupt supply networks.

Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and trafficking, urging the public to cooperate and share information to help build a drug-free society.
