Kulgam, Nov 09: The Kulgam district administration is set to establish Kisan Khidmat Gars (KKGs) across the district as part of its initiative to enhance agricultural services for local farmers. Ten KKGs have already been set up, and District Commissioner (DC) Athar Aamir Khan announced plans for 70 additional centers to be launched soon.
DC Khan made the announcement during a Farmer’s Fair at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Kulgam, an event organized in collaboration with multiple departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Apiculture, Animal Husbandry, and Sheep Husbandry, led by the Agriculture Department. At the fair, high-yielding varieties, advanced equipment, and various insurance schemes were showcased to support farmers’ productivity and income.
“This Farmer’s Fair brings together experts, scientists, and agricultural instructors to guide farmers in optimizing practices across agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and other allied sectors. We are demonstrating methods that can help improve yields even on small plots of land,” DC Khan said.
The district has also reintroduced traditional crop varieties like mushkabadi, cultivated this year on 5 hectares, with samples of the initial harvest displayed at the event.
DC Khan highlighted the implementation of the Holistic Agricultural Development Project, encompassing 29 components to support diverse farming needs. Applications under this project are processed within days, and the fair also included demonstrations of these initiatives. Additionally, the Kisan Sampark Abhiyan, a farmer outreach campaign, is being relaunched.
“Kisan Khidmat Gars will serve as one-stop centers where farmers can access essential services, such as information on government schemes, fertilizers, and seeds, right in their local areas. These centers eliminate the need for farmers to travel far; they can conveniently visit their local Gram Panchayat or village Kisan Khidmat Gar,” he explained.
DC Khan expressed optimism that the 70 planned KKGs would be operational within the next month, underscoring the district’s focus on leveraging agriculture as a key economic driver.
