Kulgam, Feb 05: National Conference (NC) unequivocally condemns the killing of a former army man in Behibagh Kulgam and assures full support to his family, party spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said on Wednesday.
Dar visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and prayed for the departed soul. He said that on the directions of NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, he was instructed to visit the family and extend the party’s support. The ex-serviceman was shot dead outside his house, while his wife and niece were also attacked.
“This is a tragic incident, and we strongly condemn it. The National Conference stands against such acts of violence. We were hoping such incidents would not occur, but unfortunately, this has happened. I urge security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly. The government and the Lieutenant Governor must ensure a fair probe,” Dar said.
Commenting on the detentions following the attack, he said that a crackdown has been underway since the incident, with reports of around 500 youth being rounded up.
“We will not interfere in the investigation, but I urge the police to ensure that no innocent person is detained. The investigation must be fair and transparent,” he added.
The spokesperson assured the grieving family that the National Conference would extend all possible support. “They are poor labourers, and we have assured them that the party will do whatever it can to help. May Allah forgive the departed and grant a speedy recovery to the injured,” he said.
