Kulgam, Dec 17: “Smart Plant Protection System” — a project developed by three students from Government Higher Secondary School, Danow Bogund (Kulgam) — secured first position at the national-level “Eco Creativity & Innovation Hackathon” held in Delhi on Tuesday.
The Eco-Creativity and Innovation Hackathon, held from June 5 to September 26, 2024, was an initiative by Pi Jam Foundation and Amazon Future Engineer, supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
The event witnessed participation from over 4 lakh students, who submitted more than 1.9 lakh innovative ideas aimed at addressing environmental sustainability, conservation, and climate action.
From these submissions, the Top 35 innovators were selected to showcase their projects at the National-Level Eco-Hackathon Showcase in Delhi on December 17.
In Kulgam, the innovative project is the brainchild of Asim Muzaffar (Class 9th), Mujeeb Ahmad (Class 11th), and Humaira Showkat (Class 11th).
Rayis ul Bashir, a teacher accompanying the award-winning students to Delhi, told Rising Kashmir over the phone that the students and staff of the school are extremely excited and expressed gratitude to the Directorate, Pi Jam Foundation, and the district-level team for their continuous support. “More importantly, we thank Allah for this wonderful achievement,” he added.
“It is the result of three months of dedicated efforts in the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) at HSS Danow, with valuable guidance from the teachers. Thankfully, our students’ project secured the first position,” he said.
The teacher said that the project is designed to help address climatic challenges in orchards by automatically activating shields to protect against hailstorms. Besides, the model assists farmers by providing timely updates on soil moisture and atmospheric humidity, helping them determine the best time to spray pesticides and manage their crops efficiently.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Anzar from HSS Fatehgarh, Baramulla, bagged the second position for his innovative projects.
