Kulgam Police’s drug crackdown in 2023: 265 arrests, 1156 kg seizures

Kulgam, Jan 01: Jammu & Kashmir Police achieved significant success throughout 2023 in efforts against drug-related activities in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. 
A police spokesperson said they booked over 265 drug peddlers and seized a substantial amount of narcotics within the region—1156 kilograms of poppy straw and 375 kilograms of cannabis.
“In 2023, Kulgam Police registered 212 cases under the NDPS Act. They arrested 265 drug peddlers, booked 10 under the PIT NDPS Act/PSA, and recovered a considerable quantity of contraband substances worth crores. Additionally, 23 vehicles were seized,” he said.
With earnest support from the local population, we made efforts to combat the drug menace in the district, the spokesperson said, adding that the dedicated team of officers displayed exceptional commitment, achieving significant milestones in enforcing the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
“At the end of the year, contraband substances including Poppy Straw (1156 kg), Cannabis (375.7 kg), Charas (14.7 kg), Ghanja (37.2 kg), Brown Sugar (224 grams), Heroin (291 grams), Codeine (309 bottles), Alprazom Tablet (330 tablets), Spasmo Proxy Ven Plus (320 capsules), Clonazepam (18 strips), and Tramadol (07 strips) were recovered,” he said.
He said the citizens of the district have shown utmost faith and satisfaction in the police action against drugs, expressing their total support. “Kulgam Police remains steadfast in its commitment to confront drug smugglers and seize both movable and immovable property used for illicit trafficking within the district,” he said.
The spokesperson urged the general public to come forward with information on drug peddling in their areas or call cell number 7051510660 (PCR Kulgam)/Dial 112 to support police efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society—a true sign of a robust Police-Public relationship. He assured that the identity of the caller will be kept confidential
