Kulgam, Feb 12: The Special Forest Division Kulgam on Wednesday held two separate camps in the division and distributed free conifer saplings among the people as part of the Green J&K drive, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of forest cover in daily life.
Mohammad Ashraf Katoo, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Kulgam, said that the department organised the camp as part of a drive to promote environmental conservation in Kulgam. He said that two free conifer sapling distribution camps were set up at the Tehsil Office Pahloo and main market Pahloo, with plans to hold many more camps across other ranges of the division.
He added that this initiative, organised under the banner of Awareness-cum-Green J&K, aimed to promote awareness about the importance of forests and their conservation.
An official said that the distribution-cum awareness programme was a collaborative effort between the Forest Department and the Revenue Department, with Tehsildar Pahloo and Range Officer Social Science (SC) Range Kulgam inaugurating the event.
DFO Kulgam said that the event saw large participation from locals, indicating a growing interest in environmental conservation. He said that the Forest department is making efforts to educate locals about conservation activities and the significance of forests in daily life. “Around 2500 saplings were distributed among the people in the two distribution camps held in the division on February 12,” he added.
