Kulgam, Oct 15: The District Administration Kulgam is hosting the third edition of the Veshow Literary Festival 2025 on October 16 and 17 at Government Degree College Kulgam. The two-day event aims to celebrate Kashmir’s literary heritage, art, languages, and culture. Organised in collaboration with Government Degree College Kulgam, the festival will feature a range of literary and cultural activities, including a book fair, exhibition area, heritage village, poetry sessions, folk music performances, paper presentations, and drama shows. Prof Shad Ramzan, a prolific writer and scholar of the Kashmiri language, told Rising Kashmir that the Veshow Literary Festival, which has been hosted by the district administration for the past few years, carries immense significance. “Such initiatives help revive art and culture in Kashmiri society,” he said. Prof Shad said that the festival also helps non-Kashmiri speakers become familiar with the culture while providing a platform for many artists to showcase their work. “Kulgam is a fertile land in terms of literature and culture. Sheikh-ul-Alam belongs to Kulgam, and many prominent writers are from here. This initiative gives a boost to writers from Kulgam,” he said. “The biggest benefit of this festival is that it revives the Kashmiri language and cultural traditions, and it is being done on a good platform.” He added that when such programmes are hosted by the government or the administration itself, they carry more weight than those organised by private players. “When the government takes the lead to preserve and promote the Kashmiri language and culture, it makes a real impact,” he said. “A festival translated into Kashmiri means Varrus, which was an age-old tradition in Kashmir. The mela or varrus had its own importance in Kashmiri culture, and it should be revived at all levels,” Prof Shad added. Day one of the festival will include a Kashmiri mushaira Shai’re Pend, folk music performance LaiyLoolech by Mudasir Maqbool and Party, paper presentation Vetshnay, and a drama titled KhetithQetil chi Aamas Manz. On the second day, sessions like Mulaakaat, celebrating the literary legacy of Prof Shad Ramzan, a panel discussion on Sir TeBaavath on spirituality, cultural performances, and presentations by women writers will be held. The festival will conclude with Shareh Geri, an All India Mushaira hosted by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, extended an open invitation to the public to grace the occasion. “You are all cordially invited to join us on October 16 and 17, 2025, for the third edition of the Veshow Literary Festival at Kulgam,” DC Khan said.
