Qazigund, Aug 21: The inhabitants of Kuchipora village in Qazigund raised their voices on Monday due to the lack of access to drinking water. The area has been without water supply for over a week.
The residents of Kuchipora are currently facing a shortage of drinking water, enduring this challenge for more than a week.
A female protester said that their demand is simple – access to clean drinking water, a fundamental necessity for life.
“The situation is extremely difficult, especially for women and children. We are forced to trek long distances under the scorching sun to fetch water,” a woman said.
The protestors appealed to the Jal Shakti department to address the issue promptly, in the hopes of finding some relief.
Zulfikar Ali, the Executive Engineer (Exn) of the Jal Shakti Department Division, Qazigund, told Rising Kashmir that the problem stemmed from a landowner on whose property an Overhead Water Supply Tank (OST) had been previously constructed.
“We have resolved the matter, and the water supply will soon reach the residents who were facing issues. Additionally, we have forwarded the landlord’s case to the relevant authorities for further action.”
