KU, GDC Ganderbal organise awareness programme on breast cancer

Srinagar, Oct 10: Department of Bioresources, University of Kashmir, in collaboration with Government Degree College Ganderbal on Monday organised a Breast Cancer Awareness Programme
as part of observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
 
The day-long programme was held on directions of Vice Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan in connection with month-long outreach and extension activity by the University.
 
The theme of the programme was, ‘Breast Cancer: Prevention, Care, Early Detection, Treatment, Research and Education’.
 
The programme was attended by more than 200 participants and 
was inaugurated by Dr Fouzia Fatima, Principal Government Degree College Ganderbal.
 
Discussing the emerging trends of cancers globally, Dr Fouzia emphasised on awareness and early detection of breast cancer for its early treatment. She congratulated and acknowledged the role of Department of Bioresources in conducting such awareness programmes.
 
Keynote lecture on Breast Cancer Awareness was delivered by Dr Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Head Department of Bioresources, who emphasised that breast cancer awareness must reach young generation so that they get aware about the risks factors, symptoms, prevention strategies, screening and early detection of breast cancer. 
 
“We need to pool and share our resources and use latest technologies for diagnosis, treatment and awareness of breast cancer,” he said.
 
Dr Manzoor also highlighted the teaching and research activities of the Department of Bioresources and emphasized that the Department is actively engaged in breast cancer research especially the Triple Negative Breast Cancer which is showing highest prevalence in the country.
 
Dr Mudasira Roshan, Coordinator of the programme, welcomed the participants and gave a detailed introduction about the programme. She highlighted various outreach programmes being organised by the college in this regard. 
 
Dr Tanveer Salaam delivered the vote of thanks.
