Qazigund, Sept 07: Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated for the first time at the Pandit Colony in Vessu.
Devotees said that while the auspicious occasion is celebrated worldwide, this was the first time it was held as a community event at the KP Colony.
Shakti Raina, a devotee said that Saturday marked the 52nd anniversary of Ganesh Chaturthi. She said that Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the country, and for the first time in Vessu, this festival is being celebrated as a community event.
Surinder Pandita, General Secretary KP Colony, Vessu, congratulated people on Ganesh Chaturthi and said, “I would like to thank the Ganpati Trust Pune, who gave us this opportunity. For the first time in Kashmir, they have given us the chance to celebrate this festival. Today, we are celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi with great enthusiasm in our district, at Vessu colony.”
He added, “The celebration will last for five days, from the 7th to the 11th. Today, on the 7th, the statue was installed, and along with that, Prasad will be distributed.”
He further said that on the 11th, a small Havan will be conducted for two to three hours, followed by a meal. In the evening, they will proceed with the immersion of the statue.
“We are very grateful to the District Administration and especially to Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam. We can never forget their contribution. In the past, present, and future, their support, especially in Vessu Colony, has been invaluable. From small tasks to large ones, whatever we request, they make it available to us,” he said.
