Srinagar, Sep 13: In a heart-wrenching and emotional moment, Ghulam Hassan Bhat, a former senior police officer who served in Jammu & Kashmir until 2018, bid a somber farewell to his son, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Himayun Bhat on Wednesday evening.
The region was gripped by tragic news as it mourned the untimely demise of Himayun Bhat, who lost his life in a gunfight in the Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The solemn scene that unfolded was poignant and deeply moving.
Following the necessary medical procedures, Himayun’s mortal remains were brought to his residence in Humhama, Srinagar, on Wednesday evening. Hundreds gathered to participate in the funeral prayers of the slain police officer.
Just a month ago, Himayun had brought immense joy to his family when he became a father. However, this joy was tragically replaced by profound sorrow and distress. The loss of a brave officer like Himayun has left his family and the entire community mourning his untimely departure.
Ghulam Hassan Bhat’s poignant final salute to his son underscored the deep sense of loss and grief that enveloped the area. Himayun’s dedication to maintaining law and order was remembered with reverence.
The Kokernag village witnessed a fierce and tragic gun battle, resulting in the loss of three high-ranking officers, including an Army Colonel, an Army Major, and DySP Himayun Bhat from the Jammu & Kashmir Police.
The Bhat family bid farewell to their beloved son and brother, Humayun, during a wreath-laying ceremony attended by dignitaries, including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and other high-ranking officers. Amidst tears and profound grief, Himayun’s father paid his respects to his fallen son.
Himayun, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty, had celebrated his marriage just a year and a half ago. The recent joy of welcoming his first son, born just a month ago, was abruptly shattered by the devastating news of his untimely death.
Relatives and well-wishers, including Mohammad Usman, came to console the bereaved family, expressing their pain and sorrow. Himayun was remembered as a caring and compassionate individual who touched many lives during his brief time. He was described as an ideal son, obedient, responsible, and loving.
The wreath-laying ceremony for Himayun was held at District Police Lines, Srinagar. Civil, CAPFs, and Police officers paid their respects to the fallen hero, honouring his supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Earlier, the tragic encounter unfolded as security forces engaged in a gunfight with terrorists in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district. The encounter, which began on Tuesday evening during a hunt for terrorists in the Gadole area, claimed the lives of three security force officers.
