Jammu, Dec 12: Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, Khelo India State Centre of Excellence for Fencing on Monday successfully conducted the open selection trials for the twin districts of Udhampur and Reasi.
The candidates were put through a battery of tests, both sports-specific skill tests as well as motor ability tests, to tap the best among the lot.
The trials were held under the observation of Joint Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Divisional Sports Officer, Ashok Singh and regional Deputy Director, Sports Authority of India.
Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull had given directions for fast-tracking of the selection process for admission to KISCE besides keeping it fair and transparent in all aspects.
Pertinently, KISCE is a residential scheme for providing the best infrastructure, coaching and hobby of sports science to the athletes aiming for Olympic participation. The first-of-its-kind initiative in the union territory of J&K shall be mentored and supervised by the experts of the Sports Council.
The selection trials in other districts shall follow the trials held on Monday. In the past, Fencers from J&K have put up an exceptional show both at domestic and international events and with the setting up of a specialised centre; J&K is expected to take leaps in the future.
