Srinagar, Apr 15: Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi on Monday said she felt “a deep peace in the heart” after arriving in Srinagar.
Speaking on the sidelines of India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) event, Bedi said she was moved by the enthusiasm and aspirations of local youth.
“I felt a deep peace in my heart after coming to Srinagar. The children here want to take inspiration, they want to be self-reliant and contribute to nation-building,” she said.
Bedi said although she had known about IIMUN for a long time, this was her first opportunity to attend its event in Srinagar. “Srinagar was very much in need of such an inspirational event. I congratulate the entire IIMUN team and am grateful to these youth. The way the children want to learn, take inspiration, and be self-reliant—I was very happy to see,” she added.
Before addressing the media, the retired IPS officer invited a young girl participating in the event to introduce it. Without hesitation, the girl described IIMUN as a non-profit, youth-run organisation that empowers students to aspire to leadership roles. She said the organisation encourages interactions with inspiring personalities like Kiran Bedi and IAS officer Athar Aamir Khan, a UPSC 2nd rank holder, to instill values of leadership and confidence.
Bedi said she had attended many such programmes across the country, but the experience in Srinagar was unique. “The more good role models, knowledge, and inspiration we offer, the more children will aspire to become like them,” she said.
She added, “The children we groom today will be tomorrow’s good officials, businessmen, teachers, and community leaders. All of them will emerge from among today’s children. When you inspire them now, you shape the society they will create.”
