Kiran Bedi hails Ratan Tata as ‘Poore Watan ka Ratan’ at inaugural memorial lecture hosted by CNMS

New Delhi, Dec 29: Speaking on the legacy of Shri Ratan Tata, Dr. Kiran Bedi stated, “Ratan Tata was truly ‘Pooore Watan ka Ratan’—a priceless gem of India. His visionary leadership not only revolutionized the Tata Groups but also contributed immensely to the nation’s growth through his unwavering commitment to integrity, innovation, and philanthropy. His work in education, healthcare, and rural development has impacted millions and will continue to benefit generations to come.”

Dr. Kiran Bedi, IPS (Retd.), Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, delivered a powerful and inspiring keynote address at the 1st “Ratan Tata: Bharat Ke Ratan” Memorial Lecture organized by the Centre for Narendra Modi Studies (CNMS). The event, held at the India International Centre in New Delhi on the birth Anniversary of Ratan Tata, witnessed the participation of scholars, social leaders, academicians, industry experts, and students.

She further added, “What truly set him apart was his humility and his dedication to serving the nation. Ratan Tata taught us that true leadership is about putting the welfare of others before oneself. His legacy of compassion and excellence will continue to inspire and guide future generations in building a better, more inclusive India.”

Dr. Kiran Bedi also appreciated the Centre for Narendra Modi Studies for organizing such an important event. She said, “It is truly commendable that CNMS has taken the initiative to honor Ratan Tata’s extraordinary contributions to India. Events like these inspire others to follow his path of excellence and service to the nation.”

Kishor Makwana, Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Govt of India, praised Ratan Tata’s leadership. He said, “Ratan Tata’s legacy inspires every Indian. His honesty, kindness, and dedication to society have set a great example. Under his leadership, the Tata Group grew and helped the nation. His work will continue to inspire future generations.”

Dr. Basant Goel, Chairman of Mission Sevarth Seva Foundation, also honored Ratan Tata’s impact. He said, “Ratan Tata was a person of great humility and service. His contributions to society and his vision for a better future have greatly helped India. His values teach us that true leadership is about helping others.”

Prof. Jasim Mohammad, Chairman of CNMS delivered the inaugural address and extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries. He shared the heartfelt message of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion, stating, “Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being. He stated that Ratan Tata provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses, while also endearing himself to many through his humility, kindness, and unwavering commitment to improving society. He also announced that the Ratan Tata Memorial Lecture would be an annual tradition, honoring Tata’s values of humility, service, and nation-building.

Neeldaman Khatri, the former MLA from Narela, Delhi, was the Guest of Honour at the 1st Ratan Tata Memorial Lecture. Speaking at the event, he expressed, “Ratan Tata ji’s contributions to India in both business and society have made a lasting impact. His vision, integrity, and dedication inspire us to work for a better future. I am honoured to be part of this special event.”

A special souvenir, jute memorial bag, and the CNMS 2025 calendar were also unveiled by Dr. Kiran Bedi, Shri Kishor Makwana, Neeldaman Khatri, Dr. Basant Goel, Dr Jawaid Rahmani, Dr Amna Mirza, Dr Aayushi Ketkar and Prof Jasim Mohammad. The souvenir, “Ratan Naval Tata: The Great Son of Bharat” Edited by Dr Basant Goel & Dr Jasim Mohammad, includes messages from leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ugandan President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The program was seamlessly moderated by Dr. Aayushi Ketkar, who ensured meaningful dialogue and a well-coordinated event. However, Dr. Jawaid Rahmani presented the Annual Report of the CNMS, highlighting its significant contributions. A video showcasing eight years of CNMS’s journey followed, captivating the audience with its remarkable achievements.

Other distinguished speakers, including Dr. Amna Mirza (Associate Professor, Delhi University), Shri Anil Maheshwari (Veteran Journalist), Smt. Priti Srivastava (Mentor, Reliance Delhi), Dr. Adish C. Aggarwala (Senior Advocate and Former President, Supreme Court Bar Association), Sirajuddin Quraishi (Ex President IICC), Shri Firoz Bakht Ahmad (Former Chancellor, MANUU), Dr. Renuka and Mrs. Sunaina Agrawal, shared their valuable insights on Ratan Tata’s contributions to India’s industrial and social progress.

The program began with the National Anthem, followed by the presentation of bouquets and a floral tribute to Shri Ratan Naval Tata. The event also observed a moment of silence to honor the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, paying heartfelt respect to his remarkable legacy and contributions to the nation.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Secretary of CNMS Nikhat Parveen, who appreciated the participation of esteemed guests and attendees, followed by high tea and the distribution of the CNMS Calendar 2025.
