Jammu, Aug 27: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the former chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, calling him an “opportunist” for taking a “U-turn” on contesting in the assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir.
“Omar has once again shown his true colours by changing stance not to contest the assembly elections until the restoration of statehood to Jammu & Kashmir,” Gupta said in a statement.
He accused the Abdullah of misleading the people of J&K. “Omar Abdullah has proven that he cannot be trusted. He made grand claims, saying that he would not participate in any assembly polls until statehood was restored, but now, in a clear act of political opportunism, he has accepted his candidature from the Ganderbal constituency. This is a blatant betrayal of the people who believed his words,” the BJP leader said, adding, “Abdullah’s actions reveal his desperation to regain political power at any cost.”
The former deputy chief minister added, “Omar Abdullah’s words do not hold value, they do not stay on his tongue. He is trying to manipulate public sentiments for personal gain, and this deceit must be exposed.”
Gupta said the BJP is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the political process and will not allow “opportunists” like Omar Abdullah to “mislead” the people of J&K for their “political survival”.
“The unprincipled decision of Omar Abdullah of making a U-turn over his pledge has not only surprised the gullible electorate but has also upset the NC’s dedicated leadership which was expecting a seat from the constituency which the NC Vice President has now ‘grabbed in an unprincipled manner’ to satiate his hunger for power,” the BJP leader said.
