Srinagar, Feb 19:
From CCTV to automatic doors, Kashmir’s first 8-coach electric train is set to be inaugurated tomorrow by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Srinagar railway station. Equipped with state-of-the-art features aimed at ensuring a comfortable and secure travel experience for passengers, this electric train marks a significant milestone in the region’s transportation infrastructure.
A Central Spokesman of Indian Railways told Rising Kashmir that the Valley’s electric train comprises eight coaches, each equipped with a wide range of amenities including automatic doors, providing seamless entry and exit for passengers. The inclusion of CCTV cameras enhances security measures within the train, ensuring the safety of travelers throughout their journey.
“Passenger comfort is a top priority, and the electric train boasts air-conditioning units in each coach. The interiors have been designed to maximize space for passengers, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable commuting experience,” he added.
The spokesman further stated that the train also features charging points and station screens inside the coaches. It will operate on the newly electrified stretch between Sangaldan station and Baramulla station, part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project (USBRL).
Another official at IRCON International mentioned that this marks a historic day for railways in Kashmir, with all arrangements being finalized for the mega event. He stated, “The electrification of this entire section has been completed with a Rs 470 crore investment, covering 19 stations. This will make the operation of the Vande Bharat train possible.”
The inauguration of the electric train is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which aims to establish an all-weather, comfortable, and economically feasible transportation network with the rest of the country.
