Srinagar, Aug 31:  Lal Ded maternity hospital Srinagar has asked the Government Medical College Srinagar to enhance security measures in light of the rape-murder case of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.

In a letter to the medical college, the lone tertiary-cum-maternity facility has suggested a slew of measures including installation of a sufficient number of high-resolution CCTV cameras at strategic locations such as dark spots and sensitive areas.

“Being maternity hospital where majority of the staff are female gender and work in all the corners of the hospital from the gate to the theatre, it is very much important for the administration to ensure their safety so that any untoward incident may not happen in future,” LD hospital said in a letter addressed to Principal GMC Srinagar.

It said as a safety measure, CCTV Cameras installed were insufficient for coverage of all sensitive areas adding there is need of 30 -40 CCTV cameras in the vital areas of the hospital.

The letter notes that the existing strength of security personnel are not sufficient to keep eye on any kind of mischief or theft of public property, newborn babies or occurrence of any untoward activity in the hospital.

The hospital demands necessary action for installation of more CCTV camera systems and augmentation/enhancement of security personnel for smooth functioning of hospital affairs.

After the Kolkata’s doctors’ rape-murder case, the hospital has also constituted an internal sexual harassment committee which has been tasked to ensure timely and effective response to conduct enquiry of sexual harassment against any employee of this hospital, if any.

“The committee shall address sexual harassment, if any and action taken report (ATR) thereof to be submitted to MS LD for its onward transmission to the concerned quarters,” the hospital said in an order.

Notably, the hospital has also constituted the hospital’s security and violence prevention committee. The maternity hospital has also constituted another committee as directed by Principal Govt. Medical College Srinagar.

“The committee officers and officials are hereby constituted to ascertain the facts before we have to lodge institutional FIR so that on preliminary basis the factual position of such related cases be identified and then proceeded for filing of institutional FIR,” the hospital said in an order.
