Srinagar, May 24: Shia Muslims across various parts of the Kashmir Valley came together on Friday to mourn the demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash recently.
The community organised peaceful demonstrations and memorial gatherings in Budgam, Srinagar and Baramulla districts, expressing solidarity with the Iranian nation.
The largest procession was observed in Magam and Budgam main towns, where men, women and children participated in solemn remembrance. Alongside the demonstrations, the people distributed water and juices to attendees as a gesture of support and unity.
Anjuman Shari Shiyan has been organising memorial gatherings across central locations since the demise of President Raisi. Notable gatherings took place at the central Imambara in Budgam, Pattan and in Srinagar areas including Gawkadal, Hassanabad, Zadibal and Shalimar.
Attendees offered condolences to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Imam Khamenei and the Iranian people. They highlighted the significant contributions and sacrifices of the late President Raisi.
During the gatherings, Anjuman Shari Shiyan president Agha Syed Hassan al-Mousavi al-Safavi lauded President Raisi’s dedication and service to Iran. “The martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raisi transcended national boundaries and united the Islamic world in mourning,” he said.
