Srinagar, Jan 25:  Ahead of 26 January celebrations on Thursday, Kashmir is under a thick security grid and three- tier security has been set up around SK cricket stadium, while there will be no restrictions on public movement, police officials said.
The main function would be held at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar and Advisor to Lieutenant Governor will unfurl the tri-color and take the salute at the function.
Additional Director of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Rising Kashmir that there will be no restrictions on any movement on Thursday.
Another official at the police department said that all arrangements have been finalized regarding 26 January celebrations on Thursday. We are already on alert and want incident-free Republic Day celebrations in the Valley,” he said.
The officer said tight security arrangements have been put in place around the venue for peaceful conduct and there would be multiple checkpoints from the main gate of SK stadium to the exact venue, he said.
“Both police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have intensified patrolling, vehicle checking, and frisking at various flashpoints in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley,” he said.
The officer said the new security plan has already been framed and accordingly the deployment would remain in place for smooth conduct of the function across Kashmir.
“Drones and camera-fitted vehicles and CCTV would be used to monitor the overall situation during the vital functions across the Valley,” he said.
The officer said both human and technical means will be used to ensure incident-free celebrations. SOG’s in civvies will be deployed around the vital points to keep an eye on suspicious persons, he said.
Regarding the snapping of internet services, the official said as a precautionary measure. There is no direction regarding snapping mobile internet services during morning hours, he said.
Similarly in other parts of south and north Kashmir, adequate security measures are being taken to ensure incident-free 26 January functions.
On Wednesday, security forces were seen conducting surprise checks. As per officials, both army and the police have been asked to conduct night domination patrolling, especially on the highways connecting rural areas with the city.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole said all arrangements have been finalized for the January 26 celebrations in Kashmir on Thursday.
He said apart from the main function at SK stadium, flag hoisting will be held at all government offices including Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Municipal Committees, Block Development Offices, and other offices so that they can attend the main functions at their respective places.
“We have already given directions to all the government departments in this regard. Normally these functions will be conducted in office premises but adequate security arrangements have been placed to ensure peaceful functions,” he said.
Pole said in order to keep track of each and everything there will be full-proof surveillance including CCTV and drones at all the venues.
