Srinagar, Sept 23: The Jammu Division of Indian Railways successfully conducted a mega e-auction for the allotment of stalls at various stations across the Kashmir Valley to boost non-fare revenue and optimise railway assets.
The auction, organised under the leadership of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SDCM) Uchit Singhal, witnessed active participation from bidders across the region. The initiative aimed to enhance passenger amenities while supporting local economic growth through new business opportunities at the stations.
Several stalls were allotted across key railway stations in the valley. Mobile and mobile accessories outlets were allotted at Banihal, Awantipora, and Anantnag Railway Stations, while grocery and photocopier outlets were allocated at Anantnag, Sangaldan, Srinagar, Awantipora, and Banihal.
The e-auction is expected to generate a total revenue of Rs 26,16,963 over three years. Besides the financial benefits, the initiative will provide convenient services for passengers and create employment opportunities, contributing to the local economy of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking about the success of the initiative, Uchit Singhal said such efforts not only unlock the potential of railway assets. It will also align with the broader goal of transforming Indian Railways into a more passenger-friendly and economically vibrant entity, he said.
Singhal said the Jammu Division is committed to implementing innovative revenue-generating strategies while continuously working to provide better services and infrastructure for passengers.
The auction reflects Indian Railways’ ongoing strategy to maximise asset utilisation, improve passenger facilities, and strengthen the overall operational efficiency of stations in the Kashmir Valley, Singhal added.
