Srinagar, Jan 24: Kashmir has a tremendous potential for bee keeping due to conducive climatic conditions and diverse forest resources, and by exploring this allied wing we can generate a good number of employment opportunities for our young educated farmers, agri-preneurs, said Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal.
He said this during his address to the participants of divisional level training cum orientation programme on promotion of beekeeping under holistic development of agriculture and allied sectors.
Director Agriculture said that beekeeping on one hand can play a significant role in the crop production and productivity and on the other hand if explored on commercial lines this venture could play an important role in the socio-economic transformation of concerned farmers.
He said that the department has already taken some initiative for the promotion of beekeeping in the region and now under the holistic development of agriculture and allied sectors a multi-pronged approach has been adopted for the promotion of beekeeping in the UT of J&K.
Director Agriculture asked the participants of the training programme (officers of agriculture and allied departments) to work in coordination for successful implementation of the projects under a holistic document.
He underlined the importance of raising awareness among the farmers of the region so that the desired results could be achieved.
