Recalls honeymoon trip to Pahalgam in 1989, says Kashmir always refreshes her
Srinagar, May 10: Veteran Bollywood actor Bhagyashree, who keeps visiting Kashmir has expressed her desire to see her children explore and work in the valley, saying the region offers countless untapped locations for filmmaking.
The actress, best known for her debut role opposite Salman Khan in the blockbuster movie Maine Pyar Kiya, said that with film shootings returning to Kashmir after decades, she hopes the younger generation of actors will rediscover the valley’s beauty.
“Since the shooting culture has resumed in Kashmir after almost more than 30 years, I want my children - Abhimanyu Dassani and Avantika Dassani to shoot and explore the different locations of the valley. There are still many untapped places here. This is my wish now,” she told Rising Kashmir in an interview.
The 57-year-old actress said Kashmir holds a special place in her life and memories. Recalling her first visit to the valley soon after her marriage with businessman Himalay Dassani, Bhagyashree said the couple chose Kashmir for their honeymoon in 1989.
“When Himalay and I got married, I told him to take me somewhere I had never seen before, and he decided to bring me to Kashmir for our honeymoon. We stayed in Pahalgam during our first visit in 1989,” she recalled.
She said the couple returned to Kashmir in 2016 to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary and visited again in 2021 during the COVID-19 period. Her last trip in 2023 marked her fourth visit to the valley.
Over the years, Bhagyashree has repeatedly spoken about her admiration for Kashmir’s scenic beauty, culture and hospitality. During her earlier visits too, she had shared photographs and videos from the valley on social media, praising its landscapes and the warmth of its people.
The actress said she always feels refreshed after visiting Kashmir and described the locals as extremely hospitable and welcoming.
“Whenever I visit here, whether it is the hotel staff, shikarawalas, cab drivers or shopkeepers, everyone is so warm and welcoming. I don’t understand why people go to countries like Switzerland when our own Kashmir is more beautiful and even cheaper to visit,” she said.
Bhagyashree revealed that both her children were keen to accompany her during her last visit but could not make it because of their professional commitments. She added that the family has been working on a script which they intend to shoot in Kashmir.
“They wanted to visit, but unfortunately, they couldn’t due to their busy shooting schedules. However, we are working on a script that we are planning to shoot in Kashmir,” she said.
Bhagyashree, who is also known for her interest in health, wellness and traditional lifestyles, said she is particularly fond of Kashmiri cuisine and local handicrafts. She said she never returns home empty-handed from the valley.
“Whenever I come here, I always take saffron, nadru, honey and dry fruits. Last time, I also purchased morel mushrooms because they are very good for health,” she said.
She added that she also bought a traditional handmade Kashmiri pheran from a local artisan during her last visit.
Before concluding, the actress appealed to filmmakers and artists from the Indian film industry to visit and explore Kashmir for film projects.
“I will request all film industry producers, directors and my co-stars to come and explore the beauty of Kashmir,” she said.
