Kargil, Feb 29: In a groundbreaking development, Mehroon Nissa, hailing from Shargole, Kargil, has secured her position in Team India for the upcoming Asian Oceania Championship in Kyrgyzstan. This achievement marks a significant milestone as Mehroon Nissa becomes the first female ice hockey player from Kargil to earn a spot in the national squad.
Mehroon Nissa’s journey in ice hockey commenced under the guidance of renowned coach Zia Ur Rahman Mir in Kargil. She honed her skills while playing for the local club, Downhill Team, before receiving advanced training from Aashu Sir at Iskate Gurugram. Her stellar performances also earned her opportunities to represent Team Delhi and Team Telangana in various national championships.
Syed Mehraj Ud Din Shah, the General Secretary of District Kargil Olympic Association, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Mehroon Nissa, recognizing the historic significance of her selection.
