Jammu, Jan 03: Justice Tashi Rabstan, Judge of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, and Executive Chairman of J&K Legal Services Authority, on Wednesday inaugurated a dental awareness cum hygiene camp for the inmates of Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal. The two-day camp, organized by Indira Gandhi Government Dental College in collaboration with J&K Legal Services Authority and the Prison Department, aimed to address dental issues faced by the jail inmates.
Justice Tashi highlighted the importance of dental hygiene and the lack of awareness leading people to ignore dental problems. The camp was initiated based on the demand raised by jail inmates during Justice Tashi’s previous visits to various jails in the UT of J&K. The J&K Legal Services Authority, in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Government Dental College and Director General Prisons, formulated a two-month calendar for organizing dental awareness cum hygiene camps in all jails of Jammu and Kashmir, covering Jammu province in the first phase and Kashmir province in the second phase.
Principal Indira Gandhi, Government Dental College, informed the Executive Chairman that teams comprising 22 dental surgeons and 4 technicians have been deputed for two days at Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu. The teams not only spread awareness about dental hygiene but also conducted dental check-ups and provided treatment during the camp.
Various dental surgeons addressed the gathering, educating them about precautions required for maintaining dental health. Subsequently, Justice Tashi inspected proceedings of the NIA court Jammu, conducted virtually involving jail inmates. The Director General Prisons thanked the Executive Chairman for organizing such programs for jail inmates and requested addressing the shortage of medical staff in various jails.
Later in the day, Justice Tashi visited ‘Muskan,’ a Home for Mentally Affected Persons at Channi Rama, Jammu, overseeing improvements in living conditions. Justice Tashi spent time with the inmates, and Anusuya Jamwal, ADC Jammu, informed about the ongoing construction work and repairs at the facility.
Justice Tashi Rabstan urged everyone to work with dedication, ensuring the flag of Legal Services Authority flies high. Justice Tashi also inspected the office of J&K Legal Services Authority at JDA Complex, Jammu, and interacted with the staff.
