Jammu, March 24: Journalists play a pivotal role in promoting sports and games in Jammu and Kashmir, serving as catalysts in establishing the region on the national sports map, said Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), J&K on Monday.
Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Gandhi Nagar, Tara highlighted the significant contribution of sports journalists in amplifying sports culture across the Union Territory. He noted that the media’s role was instrumental in the successful hosting of the 68th National School Games, which featured four disciplines—Judo, Fencing, Wushu, and Football—in a month-long event in Jammu.
Tara reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and culture in the region. He revealed that the Department is developing a comprehensive roadmap for sports development, which will include consultations with experts and sports journalists. The event was graced by Rajinder Singh Tara as the Chief Guest, with Joint Director YSS, Ved Prakash, Deputy Director YSS Central, Jitender Mishra and Accounts Officer, Directorate of YSS, Sunil Kumar Sharma as the Guests of Honour.
