Srinagar, April 14: Amid face-off between Iran and Israel, The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Sunday urged the Foreign Ministry to establish direct lines of communication with the Indian embassies in Iran and Israel to provide real-time updates and guidance to the students.
In a letter addressed to Dr. S. Jaishankar,Minister of External Affairs, Government of India, JKSA Spokesman said that they are writing to urgently bring to attention the concerning situation faced by Indian students studying in Iran and Israel.
“With the recent escalation of tensions between these two countries, there is a palpable fear and stress among the students.
The retaliatory actions by Iran have heightened anxieties among Indian students, who rightfully fear for their safety and security amidst the looming threat of further military escalation,” he said.
The spokesman said that proactive measures must be taken immediately to ensure the well-being of these students. First and foremost, we urge the Ministry to establish direct lines of communication with the Indian embassies in Iran and Israel to provide real-time updates and guidance to the students.
“Clear and concise information about safety protocols, evacuation procedures, and emergency contacts must be shared promptly,” he said.
The spokesman also said that the Ministry should collaborate closely with the respective host governments, diplomatic missions, and international organizations to facilitate the safe passage of Indian students out of harm’s way, if necessary.
“Evacuation plans should be formulated and ready for immediate implementation should the situation escalate further. We have been in direct coordination with these students, and it is evident that they are gripped by fear and anxiety due to the unfolding events. Their families back in Kashmir are worried, and parents are weeping all the time, concerned for their safety,” he said.
The spokesman said that Kashmiri students have urgently reached out to us, expressing their deep concerns for their safety and well-being in light of the recent retaliatory actions by Iran. They have earnestly requested prompt evacuation measures to be put in place to ensure their swift return to safety.
“Furthermore, psychological support services should be made available to the students, especially those experiencing heightened levels of stress and anxiety. Counselling resources and hotlines should be established to provide emotional support and assistance to those in need.”
The spokesman said that the safety and security of Indian students in Iran and Israel must be prioritized in light of the current volatile situation. Proactive measures must be taken swiftly to alleviate their fears and ensure their well-being. Urgent attention to this matter is greatly appreciated,” he added.
