Srinagar, Nov 28: Highlighting the impressive growth of Jammu & Kashmir’s textile sector over the past 50 months, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha underscored the importance of the “Jammu & Kashmir Textile Sourcing Fair-2024” in expanding market access and export opportunities for local artisans and manufacturers.
“A resurgence of the textile sector is underway in Jammu & Kashmir. Over the past 50 months, while celebrating the rich textile traditions of the Union Territory, this sector has achieved impressive growth rates, and we are determined to build upon this progress with new initiatives,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Emphasising the government’s commitment to supporting the craft industry through reform-oriented policies, infrastructure development, and skill training, the Lieutenant Governor called on national and international buyers to help elevate the region’s unique textile products to global markets.
“We have great opportunities to work together. We must build upon the tradition of our cooperation and elevate our productive partnership to a new level,” he told the buyers.
The Lieutenant Governor added that the government has focused on developing infrastructure, providing financial assistance, and offering skill training to artisans to further enhance their capabilities.
“The rich textile tradition of Jammu & Kashmir is the pride of India. The intricate designs, marvelous themes, and subtle shades of our textile products are truly priceless. Our artisans have shown the world that our artistic heritage stands not only for excellence but for sustained excellence in the field of creativity,” he said.
The fair, organized by the Department of Industries & Commerce, J&K Trade Promotion Organisation, and the Handloom Export Promotion Council at SKUAST Kashmir, was attended by national and international buyers, exporters, and importers. It provided a platform for B2B meetings, exhibitions, and workshops, allowing participants to connect, learn about market trends, and enhance their skills.
The event was also attended by Prof. Nazir A. Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Kashmir; Sh. Saurabh Bhagat, Commissioner Secretary, Science & Technology Department; Sh. Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department; Sh. Vijay Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Sh. Khalid Jahangir, Managing Director, JKTPO; along with senior officials, artisans, entrepreneurs, and various stakeholders.
