Amritsar, April 04: Shreya Gupta, a top fencer from Jammu and Kashmir, has secured the top position in the World University Games Fencing Trials held at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. Excelling in the women’s sabre category, she has now qualified to represent India at the World University Games in Germany this July.
Delivering a stellar performance, Shreya dominated her opponents throughout the pool and knockout stages. Having begun her fencing journey at the Fencing Centre, MA Stadium, Jammu, she now trains at the Vijay Bharat Sports Academy, Ahmedabad. She recently added another milestone to her career by qualifying for the Fencing World Cup in Cairo, Egypt. Commissioner Secretary Sarmad Hafeez (Department of Youth Services and Sports) and Nuzhat Gull, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, congratulated Shreya on her remarkable achievement, commending her for bringing laurels to Jammu and Kashmir. Secretary Gull also acknowledged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration for its continued support in providing world-class training facilities, which have enabled athletes to excel on national and international platforms.
