Jammu, Dec 13: The Army on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a 105-ft Monumental National Flag at Banwat View Point in Bandichechiyan (CCB) village of Poonch district, making it the second-highest flag in this border district of Jammu region.
The foundation stone was laid by Maj Gen Kaushik Mukherjee, SM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Ace of Spades Division, the spokesman said. “There is already a 108 ft high National Flag in Pooch town, which was put in place in 2023,” PRO Defence, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said.
These high National Flags are put in place by the Flag Foundation of India all across the country, including the Union Territory (UT) of J&K.
This upcoming National Flag at Banwat in the higher reaches of Poonch will be the second-highest in J&K, he said. Set against the scenic backdrop of Poonch, the proposed monumental Tricolour will be a beacon of national pride and a tribute to the sacrifices made by generations in safeguarding the nation, the spokesman said.
The grand inauguration of the National Flag is scheduled on the 26th of January 2026 on the occasion of Republic Day celebrations.
Upon completion, Banwat View Point is expected to emerge as a centre of patriotic inspiration, contributing to the promotion of tourism, reinforcing local cultural identity and instilling a renewed sense of belonging and national pride among the people of the region, he said.
The local villagers, community representatives, civil dignitaries and the Indian Army personnel were also present on the occasion.
