Srinagar, June 21: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said that under the guidance of Prime Minister NarendraModi’s leadership, the Jammu and Kashmir brand has successfully gained global recognition. Hosting the International Yoga Day after the G20 summit has significantly drawn attention to the region, he said.
He said the PM leading the programmes like International Day of Yoga and ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K’ has given a new momentum to the growth journey of Jammu Kashmir.
Under leadership of the Prime Minister, the administration has been successful in promoting Brand Jammu Kashmir on the global platform.
Addressing the gathering in Srinagar after inaugurating J&K Trade Show 2024 at Kashmir Heritage Government Arts Emporium, he said that last year in May 2024, G20 summit was held in Srinagar and then hosting international yoga day was gained the recognition to J&K in entire world.
“For the past 5 years, there has been a vibrant transformation in every sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Common people here struggled to live peacefully due to unfavourable conditions, especially impacting the trade sector,” he said.
LG Sinha said that the era of hopelessness has now ended, and new opportunities have emerged for the youth.
“The J&K Trade Show demonstrates that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is entering an era of opportunities. It also reaffirms our commitment to fostering a dynamic business and trade environment in the UT, while showcasing J&K’s unique cultural and artistic heritage on the global stage,” he added.
LG Sinha said today, the cricket industry is incomplete without Kashmiri bats. Kashmiri willow bats are in demand not only nationally but also internationally. Moving forward, we aim to explore additional markets to further promote our industry.
“Tourism industry is getting boom and this year we are expected to break many records in this sector,” LG Sinha said.
He highlighted the record tourist influx, investor-friendly ecosystem, and industrial investments that are driving sustainable economic growth in the region.
“J&K has taken transformative reforms in the past few years to facilitate investment. We are building world-class infrastructure to make J&K a hub of innovation,” he said.
Earlier, Lt Governor Sinha welcomed the artisans, weavers, growers, and business entrepreneurs. He lauded the endeavour of Industries & Commerce department and J&K Trade & Promotion Organization (JKTPO) to promote the diverse sectors of handicrafts, handloom, agriculture and horticulture.
He also highlighted key initiatives of UT Administration, under the guidance of Prime Minister NarendraModi, to bring reforms in Agriculture, Handloom and Handicraft sectors.
“We are formulating and executing policies keeping in mind the region’s rich culture, heritage, agricultural excellence to ensure sustainable growth and employment generation. I am happy to see One District, One Product is encouraging economic opportunities,” he added.
“Our mantra of ‘Reform, Perform and Transform’ has brought a positive change in the lives of artisans, weavers, farmers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders,” LG Sinha said.
Highlighting the growth opportunities in sectors like industries, handicraft, handloom, agriculture & allied sector, food processing and agro-based industry, the Lt Governor called upon the artisans, weavers, buyers, producers and entrepreneurs to contribute in realising the potential of Jammu Kashmir.
Highlighting the importance of GI Tags, which aim to protect and promote products originating from specific geographical areas, Lt. Governor Sinha emphasized their potential to boost Jammu and Kashmir’s economy and increase the export of protected products.
“GI Tags for local products from J&K, such as BhaderwahRajmash, RambanSulai Honey, RajouriChikri Wood Craft, Mushqbudji Rice, Basohli Painting, and Kashmir Saffron, will safeguard them from counterfeiting and unfair competition while enhancing their sales value,” he said.
LG Sinha commended the efforts of the UT Administration under the guidance of PM Modi to promote the unique characteristics of agriculture, food, and handmade products in J&K. He underlined that GIs of J&K product have the potential to be a game-changer for the rural economy, benefiting the entire community of producers.
Earlier, the Lt Governor visited the stalls put up by the artisans, weavers, growers and entrepreneurs, from J&K and other regions, showcasing their products to the buyers from India and abroad.
Among those present included Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Vidhi Kumar Birdi, IGP Kashmir; Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department; Vijay Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Khalid Jahangir, Managing Director, JKTPO, senior officials, industry players, buyers, national and international exhibitors were also present on the occasion.
