J&K’s abundant medicinal plants key to new green revolution: LG

Akhnoor, Nov 10: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, on the occasion of the 8th National Ayurveda Day, graced the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of Bhagwan Dhanvantari at Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Akhnoor, today.
In his address, Lt. Governor Sinha extended his heartfelt greetings to the public on this significant day. He emphasised that the theme for this year is ‘Ayurveda for One Health,’ aligns with India’s G20 Presidency theme, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.’
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ancient wisdom of Yoga and Ayurveda for holistic well-being is benefitting humanity as a whole,” said Lt. Governor Sinha.
He stressed the need for integrating yoga, Ayurveda, and other Indian Systems of Medicine into the mainstream public health system to ensure a healthy life for all citizens, requiring the undivided attention of doctors and other stakeholders.
The Lt. Governor underlined the collective responsibility to promote best practices in traditional medicine systems, sensitising students, farmers, and the public about Ayurveda to build a more resilient and sustainable healthcare ecosystem.
Reiterating the commitment of the UT Administration, Lt. Governor Sinha pledged to strengthen preventive and holistic care infrastructure while supporting Ayurveda startups.
“Jammu Kashmir has the potential to lead the country as a wellness and Ayurveda hub. Efforts towards this goal can be greatly augmented with the help of startups by young entrepreneurs and Ayurveda graduates,” he stated.
Highlighting the rich biodiversity of medicinal and aromatic plants in the UT, Lt. Governor Sinha emphasised the need for a sustained campaign to make farmers aware of the potential of herbs and medicinal plants, aiming to harvest the fruits of a new green revolution.
He assured full support from the administration to enhance facilities at the Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, urging the college administration to initiate PG courses.
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal GMC Jammu; Dr. Mohan Singh, Director, AYUSH, discussed efforts to promote Ayurveda and Indian Systems of Medicine in Jammu Kashmir.
The event was attended by Bharat Bhushan, Chairman District Development Council Jammu; Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt. Governor; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Anand Jain, IGP Jammu; Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, along with senior officers, faculty members, and students.
