Jammu, Nov 12: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Tuesday chaired a review and preparatory meeting to plan the celebrations for the upcoming birth anniversaries of the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Constitution Day.
The meeting was attended by senior party leaders, former ministers, ex-legislators, District Congress Committee (DCC) Presidents, members of the party’s frontal wings, and former corporators. Working Presidents Tara Chand and Raman Bhalla were also present at the meeting.
The meeting outlined plans to celebrate the birth anniversary of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru on November 14, the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi on November 29, and Constitution Day on November 26, with due observance and respect. The function to mark Pt Nehru’s Jayanti on November 14 will be held at the PCC headquarters at Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu.
Addressing the gathering, the JKPCC chief urged party leaders and workers to prepare for the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) and Panchayat elections. He called for strengthening grassroots committees at all levels. “The party would focus on reinforcing block and district committees with dedicated and committed workers,” he assured.
Karra said the working of these committees would be reviewed, and reconstitution efforts would be made to ensure their effectiveness. “Until the new committees are formed, the existing district and block committees will continue their operations, with the responsibility to intensify activities in their respective areas,” he said.
The MLA Shalteng Central highlighted the importance of encouraging and promoting second-line leadership based on merit. There will be no favouritism or bias in giving opportunities within the organisation, he said.
Karra announced that a campaign would be launched to revive and strengthen the core ideology of the Congress party. He reiterated that the vision of “INDIA” represents the true essence of Congress, and the revival of this vision would lead to the strengthening of the nation itself. The meeting concluded with a call for unity and preparedness within the party to face upcoming political challenges and continue to work towards the ideals of the Congress party.
