Warns voters against NC-Congress, calls election an ‘agitation’ for peace
JAMMU, Aug 30:
Union Minister and election in-charge of the Jammu and Kashmir BJP, G Krishna Reddy, on Friday urged voters to make a clear choice in the upcoming Assembly elections between parties that “promote terrorism and separatism” and the BJP, which he claims guarantees “peace and development.”
Speaking at a press conference held at Hotel Ritz on Friday, Reddy criticized the National Conference-Congress (NC-Cong) alliance, alleging that their goal is to “revive terrorism and separatism” in the region. “We will not allow that,” he asserted. “The BJP will ensure that Pakistan and its proxies are kept at bay and that J&K remains on the path of development and peace.”
Reddy emphasised that the people of Jammu and Kashmir must decide whether they want “the revival of terrorism and separatism or development and peace” in the upcoming elections. He reminded voters that the BJP fulfilled its long-standing promise of revoking Article 370, stating, “We did what we promised, not for politics, but to provide rights to the people of J&K for which they had been waiting for seven decades.”
Framing the election as an “Andoolan (agitation)” against the Congress-NC alliance, Reddy warned that the choice before the people is stark: “Do you want Kashmiri youth back on the streets with stones, or with laptops and bats in their hands?”
He also announced that the BJP would soon release its election manifesto, which will “cover all sectors” and focus on “peace and prosperity.” Reddy accused the Abdullahs and Muftis of bias against the Jammu region, asserting that “Jammu was always ignored.” He concluded with a pointed question to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and former J&K Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti: “Do you want a separate flag and constitution in J&K again?”
The upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir are being closely watched, as the BJP seeks to consolidate its influence in the region following the abrogation of Article 370.
