Srinagar, Feb 27: The 4th J&K UT-Level Carrom Championship 2024-25 commenced Thursday at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex (SKISC), Srinagar. The event was inaugurated by Adil Rashid Shah, President of the J&K Carrom Association, alongside Maqsood Khan, Manager of SKISC, in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council under the “My Youth My Pride” initiative.
The opening ceremony was graced by key officials, including Arif Sultan (Treasurer, J&K Carrom Association) and Dawar Rashid (Assistant General Secretary), who lauded the J&K Sports Council’s support. Special appreciation was extended to Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, for her unwavering commitment to promoting sports in the region.
With 120 players from various districts participating, the championship has seen highly competitive matches across different categories. Players have showcased exceptional skill and sportsmanship, making the event a thrilling spectacle.
Day 1 Results:
Cadet Boys: Hasan Adil (Srinagar), Orhan Bilal (Pulwama), and Aman Farooq (Shopian) advanced to the next round.
Cadet Girls: Iesha Hareem (Pulwama), Mahira Shafi (Baramulla), and Aisha Binti Ishaq (Kulgam) secured victories.
Sub-Junior Boys: Ahmad Eazaan (Baramulla) and Mir Riyan Farooq (Kupwara) emerged victorious.
Sub-Junior Girls: Dua Jan (Srinagar), Syeda Adil (Srinagar), and Ishra Javid (Budgam) progressed.
Junior Boys: Hasan Adil, Momin Mehraj, Mohammad Aiyan Shalla, and Zaid Bin Ajaz, all from Srinagar, won their matches.
Junior Girls: Syeda Adil (Srinagar), Maheen Rahiyan (Srinagar), and Fatima Jan (Srinagar) triumphed.
Senior Men: Furqan Nazir, Shahid, and Saleem Ahmad (all from Srinagar) secured wins.
Senior Women: Minha Arjumand, Mehandi Mehraj, and Asra (all from Srinagar) advanced.
The finals are scheduled for today, followed by a prize distribution ceremony to honour the winners. The champions and runners-up will represent J&K UT at the 52nd Senior National Carrom Championship 2024-25, set to take place from March 17–21 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. The Jammu and Kashmir Carrom Association reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing local talent and promoting carrom as a competitive sport in the region.
