Srinagar, Feb 28: The 4th J&K UT Level Carrom Championship 2024-25 concluded Friday at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar. Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Carrom Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council under the “My Youth My Pride” initiative, the championship witnessed intense competition and outstanding performances from participants across the Union Territory. The event was hosted by the district Srinagar Carrom Association.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Nusrat Gazalla, Divisional Sports Officer (Kashmir), J&K Sports Council, who presented certificates and trophies to the winners. She was joined by Adil Rashid Shah (President, J&K Carrom Association), Arif Sultan Khan (Treasurer), Dawar Rashid (Assistant Secretary), and Peer Musadiq (Vice President, District Pulwama Carrom Association), along with several district officials, members of the J&K Carrom Association, and Sports Council officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Nusrat Gazalla congratulated the participants for their remarkable skills and sportsmanship. She encouraged young players to continue engaging in such tournaments to enhance their abilities and contribute to the growth of sports in Jammu and Kashmir. She also announced that the premises will remain open for carrom players to practice under the supervision of the J&K Carrom Association. She further highlighted the significant progress of sports in the region under the leadership of Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, and Commissioner Secretary, Sarmad Hafeez. She appreciated the J&K Carrom Association for their commendable efforts in promoting the sport within a short span of time.
Adil Rashid Shah, President of J&K Carrom Association, briefed the players, officials, guests, and parents about carrom and its growing activities in the region. He congratulated the players for their exceptional performances and thanked the J&K Sports Council, especially Ms. Nuzhat Gull, for streamlining and supporting well-functioning sports associations.
He also announced that the winners and runners-up of the Senior category will represent J&K in the 52nd AAI Senior National Carrom Championship 2024-25, scheduled from March 17-21 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. President Adil Rashid Shah also addressed the participation of players from the Jammu division, stating: “We received only two to four entries from Jammu district, but unfortunately, they did not participate. We, along with our Jammu division, need to work hard so that carrom flourishes there as well. It is essential that players from every region actively take part in such events to ensure the sport grows across the Union Territory.”
He extended gratitude to all association members, senior players, and the Sports Council for their support in making the event a success, despite the challenging weather conditions.
With around 120 players from various districts competing, the championship featured multiple categories, including Cadet, Sub-Junior, Junior, and Senior divisions for both Boys and Girls. The matches displayed a high level of precision, strategy, and sportsmanship, making the tournament a thrilling experience for both players and spectators.
